Amit's Blog

It is good to see a guy like Amit to continue writing his blog in earnest, as he is a person who has lots of information and looks at everyday life in a different way, well, in a much different way than me. He is the guy who has made life easier for me at the call center. Well, here is to Amit for a good blogging experience.

GMail service

It was good to see Google provide invitations to use GMail for Blogger users. I first read this in Kiruba's blog, and was pleasantly surprised to find myself getting an invite when I logged in Blogger now. Needless to say, I have literally said 'Balle Balle' in the Punjabi style and have joined up. It is a great feeling when someone offers me 1 GB of free space on the web. As for the pessimists who say, Google scans each mail and sends appropriate advts to the mail id, I dont care. My personal opinion is that Email is no secure, it is public mail and every Viagra selling company has my mail id. And, I agree with Kribs, Gmail is definitely faster than Yahoo or Hotmail (maybe for the present time) with fewer number of users. I cannot see any reason why people would not want to take it - in fact, I see people lapping it up. Viva GMail !!

To get an idea of how much Bruce wants GMail have a look at this.

Angry at Indians in Ozland

I work at a call center taking both inbound and making outbound calls. Of late, I am feeling at the Indians who have settled here, or have been here for sometime here, say like 3-4 years. I get calls from these dudes, and they ask for the rates and invariably, the last question before hanging up is that, where are you MATE ? In Bangalore or Mumbai ? And, Bangalore / Mumbai is pronounced with such an accent, sometimes I feel they hate it so much. :- (

In fact, one Indian guy said that he was getting pushed to call centers in India whenever he calls up, and he reckons the levels of English of the customer service people are not good enough to answer his questions. I for one, know that, these girls and boys are working at the call centers at ungodly hours, waiting for these guys to call up, and this is the response. These guys should have been left at the mercy of companies like BSNL (DoT) in the olden days of monopolising the telecom industry in India.

I find that every nation is looking at decreasing the phone rates, while in Australia, Telstra and Optus are operating hand-in-hand in increasing the rates. The basic line rental for the phone has been increased by Telstra to more than $28 in the last week, making it sort of a luxury to have a landline here.

And, I have managed to get out of slack period, I dunno how, suddenly the world feels beautiful and good. Although, it is raining like hell in Melbourne today.

Update on my Life

I am still unable to get out of a period of slackness and non-interest in almost everything. I have tried to do everything, take a day off from the work, see movies for sometime, eat lots of ice creams and do my favorite thing - talk with my mom for hours together, even to the extent that she gets late for office. Still this period of non-interest does not seem to wane away.

Chakra - thankx for your advice on getting married, have told about this to my mom. Maybe, something works out during my visit to India.

I bought a DVD of the movie Dum Dum Dum today, that too a original copy. I am mighty pleased for this, I have been scouting for this DVD for some months now. Next in the line is Sathi Leelavathi starring KamalHassan. I hope to watch this movie tonight after a long time now.

And,
add one more to the list of romantic movies,

    My Graduation Day

Here are the graduation day photos. They are not as good as I would have wanted them to be, but I have to manage with this, until I wait for other snaps from my friend's much better camera.

One thing that I felt at the G Day was that I should have pressed my parents to visit Australia for the G Day. They are the people who helped me to get this degree and to accept a degree in a glittering ceremony without the people who made me do it was too emotional for me. It was good to see the parents of so many students cheering for their lads when they collected the degree certificate from the Chancellor. Some of the parents whistled, hurrayed and some of them just shed tears of joy. One thing should be mentioned here, because, this MSSE degree being my third one after my B.Sc and MCA, this graduation day is my first. Luckily for me, Arun, my closest friend since 4th Std came out from Geelong just for this purpose and I am eternally happy for that.

During the last two weeks, I have a feeling that my life is becoming empty. Get up, goto work, come back at late night, check mails, eat something and sleep. Same routine next day. Getting bored with life. I am just counting the days when I will board a plane back to India to see everybody. This is the problem when you are a only child and tend to grow up with a whole lot of cousins and everyone moves away after sometime. It is probably too early to tell, but, my life will end in India. NOT in a foreign land.

Vidya - you are graduating in some days time, make sure that you take all of your people there, it is a special moment for you and them.

I saw the movie 50 First Dates starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler. I will not comment on it, but I ask those people who believe in long standing relationships and those who wish earnestly to turn back the time to visit the places, where they first met their girl and the events that triggered the first response to watch the movie.

Why I am so attracted to romantic movies nowadays ? Do I want to get married or have a long standing and steady relationship ?

Some of the romantic movies that I like best -

  • You've Got Mail

  • When Harry met Sally

  • Notting Hill

  • Love Actually

  • Bridget Jones Diary

  • Four Weddings and a Funeral

  • Forrest Gump

  • Ghost

  • 50 First Dates

  • Sense and Sensibility

  • As an aside, here are some photos from a visit to Mordialloc Beach. (Click on the Slide Show button).

    Graduation Ceremony

I am formally graduating from University of Melbourne tomorrow evening at the Convocation ceremony - if everything goes well. I have some fines overdue to the Library that I had forgotten, which I have to pay by this evening. If that has been done, I would be able to graduate. My dad wants a photograph of me with the dress. I have arranged for all of that.
